CHOR.com · Masterclass
What is chor.com? It is a unique event where you can delve deep into a journey of discovery of the world of choral music, where you can find infinite inspiration and develop new ideas, and above all it is an opportunity to immerse yourself in vocal music, and experience the intense passion that this music holds within its bars! From October 1 to 4, 2026, the German Choral Association invites all vocal music enthusiasts to the next chor.com, which will be held for the first time in the new host city of Leipzig. Formed in 2011, chor.com has evolved into a central platform for choir directors, choir managers, music educators, church musicians, composers, publishers, singers, and all other choral music enthusiasts.
As part of the programme of events, chor.com is offering a masterclass in choral conducting with our artistic director, Florian Helgath. Participants will explore a variety of works from the Romantic period to the modern era, in order to gain a better understanding of various aspects of working with a choir, with a focus on refining conducting technique, on gesture and movement, and on rehearsal technique.
The masterclass is no dry, theoretical event: participants will have the opportunity to work on refining these skills with the Zürcher Sing-Akademie. On Sunday 4 October 2026 the masterclass will culminate in a concert in Leipzig, conducted by the participants themselves.
REPERTOIRE
The repertoire for the masterclass consists of three a cappella works ranging from the Romantic period to the modern era:
- Johannes Brahms (1833–1897): Five Songs op. 104
- Frank Martin (1890–1974): Mass for Double Choir
- Frank Martin: Songs of Ariel (from Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”)
PARTICIPANTS
The masterclass is designed for choral conducting students and choir directors who wish to refine and further develop their conducting, gestures, and rehearsal techniques. The number of active participants is limited to six to eight people. Certain parts of the masterclass will also be open to an audience of passive participants.
