{"id":19900,"date":"2026-05-22T08:23:34","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T06:23:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sing-akademie.ch\/events\/betwixt-heaven-and-earth\/"},"modified":"2026-10-20T11:10:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-20T09:10:12","slug":"betwixt-heaven-and-earth","status":"publish","type":"mec-events","link":"https:\/\/sing-akademie.ch\/en\/events\/betwixt-heaven-and-earth\/","title":{"rendered":"Betwixt Heaven and Earth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\">The splendour of the late-Baroque collides with contemporary expression: part of of our series LES CONCERTS, this programme once again unites music from past centuries with that of the present time, offering a new perspective for these soundworlds \u2014 somewhere between heaven and earth.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A HEAVENLY SOUNDWORLD<\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2 wp-block-paragraph\">At the centre of this programme are two extraordinary sacred works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. His <em>Magnificat<\/em>, composed in Leipzig in 1749, combines festive splendour and virtuosic choruses with an an extraordinary intensity of expression. It reveals Bach as a composer who embodied the baroque traditions of his father while at the same time developing the musical language that forged the way for the Age of Enlightenment. Composed later on while he was in Hamburg, <em>Heilig<\/em> was highly regarded by Bach&#8217;s contemporaries; its radiant double-choir structure and visionary approach to harmony marks it out as one of the most extraordinary sacred compositions of the 18th century.   <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AN OTHERWORLDLY PREMI\u00c8RE<\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\">These two masterpieces form a halo around the world premi\u00e8re of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ostrzyga.com\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.ostrzyga.com\">Michael Ostrzyga\u2019s<\/a> nehme mich zu sich for a cappella choir. The work is based on the harrowing farewell letter of Tjark Evers, who tragically lost his life in the North Sea in 1866, and creates an intimately emotional juxtaposition to Bach\u2019s festive soundscape. That the multi-award-winning German composer Ostrzyga is also an experienced conductor with a deep understanding of the choir as an &#8216;instrument&#8217; reveals itself in his writing.
