O

n 26 June our new CD with the Freiburger Barockorchester and Pablo Heras-Casado has been released on Harmonia Mundi:

Beethoven's 'Symphony No. 9' and 'Choral Fantasy'

The unmistakable melodies of the Ode to Joy are familiar to so many across the globe, but Ludwig van Beethoven's Choral Fantasy doesn't enjoy the same recognition. This marvellous work is an incredible fusion of genres - piano concerto, solo vocal sextet, and blistering choral finale!
Daringly triumphant: Kristian Bezuidenhout is one of the most renowned historical-instrument keyboard artists of our time; his magical interpretation of the Fantasy will leave no doubt as to why. In addition, the outstanding vocal soloists for this recording were augmented by two singers from the Zürcher Sing-Akademie: the alto Franziska Brandenberger, and the bass Gerhard Nennemann.

Pablo Heras-Casado arrived with a crystal-clear vision of what he wanted to achieve, and guided us through his interpretation with incredible energy and great enthusiasm. The result is an absolutely dazzling creation - and one that will be worthy of more than just one listening. How wonderful it is to have recordings!
