D

uring the autumn in 2017 we went on a European tour with the Freiburger Barockorchester under the direction of René Jacobs with Beethoven's opera "Leonore" in its original version of 1805. We are delighted to be performing the same piece at the Romanian 'George Enescu-Festival'.

Beethoven's Liberation Opera - published in the later version under the title "Fidelio" - is supposedly based on the true story of a Madame Tourraine who, disguised as a man, liberated her husband from the captivity of the Jacobins in Tours. The performance at the festival will be a concert, as part of the 'By Midnight Concerts'.

Further information about the concert can be found on the website of the -> Festival George Enescu.

Fun Fact: The building site of the Athenaeum in Bucharest - now a concert hall with 794 seats and an integral part of the cultural events in Bucharest and venue of the 'Staatsphilharmonie George Enescu' - was originally intended for a circus with a circus ring. Architect Albert Galleron was perhaps inspired by the floor plan of the building...
