cantata in seven episodes for mezzo-soprano, mixed choir and orchestra! The cornerstone of the music is the soundtrack to the 1938 film of the same name by Sergei Eisenstein. One year later Prokofiev composed a cantata from his film composition, suitable for the concert hall.

Epic is the plot, epic is the music: In the 13th century the folk hero Alexander Nevsky unites the Russian people and fights successfully against his enemies and adversaries.
